Taste-Defying Pasta Salad

Sometimes when you mix certain ingredients together, they become better than what they taste like on their own. You know, like that saying: “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Well that’s how I feel about the pasta salad you see above. For someone like me who hates pickles, imitation crabmeat, mayonnaise and garlic powder, I never foresaw enjoying a pasta salad that incorporated all four (and yes, this time I went with boxed pasta instead of the alternative).

My sister-in-law introduced this pasta salad to me as an accompaniment to our homemade pizzas. I went along with her plan since she seemed rather excited about it. Who was I to get in the way of a side dish? So what if I didn’t love the ingredients. But low and behold, she was right and I was wrong.

Presto Pasta Night #69!

Every week on Friday, I visit a little place called Presto Pasta Nights that was founded by Ruth of Once Upon A Feast. There, I drool over a collection of pasta dishes that range from homemade raviolis to dessert pastas to savory delicious dinners of tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and Parmesan cheese. If it weren’t for these weekly drool-worthy roundups, I don’t know that I would realize just how versatile pasta can be. Pasta is the kind of food that provides “a little something for everyone” and there’s no boundaries to what you can make with it.

So with all that said, I am deeply honored to be chosen as the second guest host for a blog event we can all relate to. Kevin of Closet Cooking was a tough act to follow, but I hope you’ll enjoy this roundup of pasta dishes as much as we enjoyed having them at Chew on That.

But enough about me, let’s see what all of YOU made! On to the pasta!

But knowing me, there will always be some mishap along the way, so come follow along…

Introducing: Bucatini

Do you have a favorite pasta shape that you tend to favor over all the others? I know, some pastas are just meant to go with certain dishes, like elbows or shells for Macaroni and Cheese and penne for Mostaccioli - but when you’re just making pasta with a simple sauce, do you usually lean towards long and skinny? short and twisty? small and curvy? Personally, I tend to reach for farfalle (bow ties) the most, I think sauce clings nicely and I enjoy the general shape. I absolutely love angel hair pasta, but for whatever reason, I often forget about its greatness. I rarely, however, crave spaghetti.
