Rosh Hashanah (The Jewish New Year) begins tonight. On this holiday, symbolic foods are eaten in hopes for a sweet, healthy and prosperous year ahead. Apples dipped in honey illustrate the sweet year we hope for while other less-known symbols like pomegranate signify the abundance of merit one hopes for in the coming year. Gourds and squash can also be seen as symbolic Rosh Hashanah foods and since they’re such a fall ingredient, it’s not such a long shot to incorporate them into Rosh Hashanah menus.

She made risotto look so easy (despite knowing that it’s not) and melded delicious flavors that were perfect for my Rosh Hashanah meal. That, and I happened to have ALL of these ingredients in my house already so I knew I had to make it.

I’ve always wanted to make my own caramel apples. They’re fun, they’re tasty, and they’re one of the best parts of fall. Well, this new addition to Recipe4Living is a recipe for the perfect caramel apples with a healthy twist! Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling these bad boys healthy, but they do incorporate trail mix into their outer caramel glaze. When was the last time you had a caramel apple with raisins and nuts?

Here at Chew on That, we love potatoes. We might not always show it but our love for potatoes and all they have to offer is certainly abundant. Potatoes are a vegetable with versatility, how could we not love them? You can boil them, fry them, bake them or grill them. You can slice them, dice them, mash them, or even make them into pasta (gnocchi).
On October 15th, we will have the honor of guest hosting one of our favorite blog events called: Potato Hos Unite. Created by the lovable food bloggers Noble Pig and Evil Chef Mom, this blog event brings all of us potato fans together to share our favorite potato dishes. It happens on the third Wednesday of every month, something the creators like to call “Potato Ho Down Wednesday”.
So, come one come all to what will be a very delicious potato roundup. And don’t forget to RSVP with your potato dish by October 14th! See full directions after the jump.

I took a trip up to Germany, I mean…Milwaukee, Wisconsin this weekend for a concert with a friend. Since our main mission was to see the concert, I thought we’d grab a quick bite to eat for dinner, nothing exciting, maybe pizza or something. Little did I know I would be experiencing something completely new and exciting…my first German meal. And a very nice one at that.
