Kicking the Wintertime Blues

Technically, last Friday marked the first day of Spring. Usually a day of optimism, chirping birds and springtime weather, our beloved Chicago decided to dump one last 6-8 inch heap of snow on us for good measure. It did not technically feel like Spring.
But I have a choice. I can let my city dictate my mood and prolong the wintertime blues or I can choose to ignore the crazy weather, pretend it’s actually spring and…
Embrace all the springtime ingredients
Oh, there’s asparagus, apricots, avocado, fennel, mango, you name it! If it’s refreshing and delicious, it’s probably a springtime favorite (or summer, both seasons are enjoyable!)
And lucky for me, we have a Spring Food Guide to help me along in my quest. No more winter for me!

I love winter for the weather. love the cooler temps (not cold - I’m in socal). but the advent of spring is awesome for the produce, absolutely. looking forward to summer fruits already.

Spring time is my favorite time of year. It gets really humid here during the summer — but right now, the weather is perfect!
Posted by Jenna at March 27th, 2008, 2:18 pmThe trees and the sneezing tell me it is spring. The frost bitten nights tell me we still can’t till the soil. Maybe somewhere around May 31st. In the meantime, approximately around the end of April, I will start those little seedlings indoors and hopefully they will blossom into the most delightful heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.
