How to Chop an Onion… Without Crying!

Impossible, you say? We’re here to prove you wrong! For this week’s video, Hillary and I tested out some of the most popular tricks of the trade to avoid crying when chopping onions. There are lots of myths out there - some practical, some not - and I’m sure many would do the job. But, as we describe in the video, it all comes down to chemistry. Watch our video to find out what works and what doesn’t. Enjoy!

Thanks for watching! If you have an idea for our next video, post it in the comments below or email us!

  8. My first job as a kid was at a Subway. I was stuck chopping every bag of onions we got in after they discovered I was the only one who worked there that would never cry from onions, even when chopping an entire bag of particularly juicy onions.

  16. I’m sure those of you who wear contact lenses have noticed
that you can cut a whole bag without crying. Another
    advantage to wearing contacts.
