Early Thanksgiving Pt. 2: A closer look at the food
Sure you got to look at the table full of food we feasted on, but Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without a little more focus on the food. After all, it is one of my favorite holidays.
So let’s have a look at the menu, shall we?

Rice noodle casserole. My mother’s signature dish, this casserole is a must-have at every family get together. For the recipe, click here.

Green beans. Nothing complicated about them!

Stuffing. This one of a kind creation was made from cornbread, cranberries, pumpkin, jalapeno peppers and sausage. For the recipe, click here.

Turkey, turkey, and more turkey. We had 20 pounds of turkey altogether. One 11 pounder and one 9 pounder. Together, they made for 4 turkey legs which are often in high demand in my family (but not from me - I’m a white meat fan.) My mom basted the turkey with rosemary and margarine, and stuffed it with fresh thyme (the stuffing was made separately - by my aunt).

Tzimmes. A traditional Jewish dish made from carrots, sweet potatoes, prunes, and stewed beef. It’s tangy, sweet, and downright delicious. For the recipe, click here.

Cranberry sauce. Remember when my mom and I made it together? It was fantastic; I kept shoveling giant heaps of it all over my turkey. We used the Traditional Cranberry Sauce recipe minus the cinnamon sticks.

Sweet and sour meatballs. A recipe passed down from my grandmother, this dish is also a staple at every family gathering of ours.
Those were the main components of my meal, but then of course there was:

Dinner rolls, a relish tray, and a giant heaping salad that could feed an army.
Let’s put it this way. There was no starvation on this November 4th of ours and 20 people (including my niece) had plenty of food to go around. It’s now Wednesday and we still have leftovers galore…Thanksgiving dinner again tonight? Possibly.
Oh wait I almost forgot the most important part: there’s always room for dessert!

Apple pie, pumpkin pie, fruit, and brownies. The pies and brownies were ordered from a bakery. My aunt and mom cut up the fruit and my aunt arranged the beautiful fruit platter.
Happy EARLY Thanksgiving!
